From stillness to surrender...

A gentle afternoon of slow flower play at Brinscall Hall @practicalphilosophynw for my Taste of Summer workshop last week saw a wonderful group of women connecting with both the season and the stillness of our beautiful venue.

My way of teaching with seasonal flowers is slow and heart led. Nature is our greatest teacher. I merely act as her guide …

We started with a gentle awareness exercise to quieten the mind and allow us to soften into our space. We let go of all that we had carried, and brought only ourselves into view. We set a soft intention as we breathed into the space.

A wandering through the gardens then, and a snip of stems that called out to those who came to connect. A calm creativity followed; a gently paced, thoughtful floral design of a garden inspired bowl arrangement.

We can become beautifully lost souls as the flow finds us, deeply absorbed, a quiet endeavour, when anything is possible. I’ve come to love the silence that falls when we settle so completely into the flowers.

The image above shows my demo bowl; one of two. Beautiful flowers from @yorkshire_flower_farm with foliage and herbs grown here. This was a scented, seasonal surrender to self care, for, as we created our garden bowls, we come to appreciate that we, too, are the garden with the same requirement for nourishment and light as the flowers.

Honestly, there’s nothing quite like softening to meet the breeze and being carried along.

Afternoon tea followed, with lots of chat, and new flowery friends made.

Thank you to Julie for the rather lovely Pimms and so much more, and to those who came to spend some time connecting with me and with the hall and gardens, it was a joy to have you alongside.

Here's my bowl of flowers in close up: soft pink and cream roses, cosmos, daucus, nicotiana, caramel phlox and a little passion flower vine.

My second bowl is above. Lots of green from which the flowers rise; more caramel. phlox, snapdragons, cosmos and calendula with scented herbs.

If you'd love to create a garden bowl with me, be in touch to enquire about workshops. I offer one to one styling, or small group sessions that simply permit you some time to create with seasonal flowers under gentle guidance.

I also invite you to stay connected for Autumn and Winter workshops as they appear here and on my social media accounts.

Thank you for being here.
